Artist Statement (Cont.)

Through my work I explore many of theses themes and how they reflect back on the adult world, with childish narrators. Some of my work follows a specific narrative that explores intellectual themes, while some is playful and whimsical, but always softly commentating. Working in oils, watercolors, gouache and colored pencil drawings, I try to create tiny worlds that are seemingly boundless and nonspecific. By keeping the figures on an endless color field plane, with no horizon, I try to blur the line between reality and imagination; toys and real people. I keep the colors rich and vibrant to maintain the allure of the original models and joyfulness that remind us of toys in the first place. I also feel that the bright color helps to contrast some of the more serious undertones.
