Toys are a fundamental building block for a child’s personality and psyche. They are companions, guardians, teachers, mentors and security. Without even being aware, toys assist in our development. Though they set our minds free to create and imagine, paradoxically they often place us into boxes as often as we do them. The large question is; to what extent do we as children choose our playthings, and to what extent, through marketing, social standards and stereotyping, do they choose us? Toys, dolls specifically, have always possessed a great amount of wonder for me. Through them one can do so much, yet the dolls themselves can do nothing on their own. So much psychology, sociology and sexuality is unconsciously built into them. They separate some of us, and join others together.
